5 Things You Can Do Now To Prepare For Next Semester!

by Lindsay Holdren

The end of the semester always feels like the busiest time of the year. You are trying to check everything off of your list that you waited for the last minute to do. Seniors are one foot out the door and break cannot get here soon enough! You can feel it, smell it, taste it, but then you are quickly reminded that you are not quite there… yet.

As the end of the semester is nearing, let’s challenge ourselves to finish strong. With the busy-ness of the end of the semester, carve out a little bit of time to set yourself up for success when you come back from break. Here are five simple things that you can do now to prepare for next year.

  1. Clean-up your technology. You are probably using multiple tech platforms. Maybe it’s ChapterBuilder, CampusDirector, MyVote, or maybe it’s a Google drive or  forms. Make sure your technology is in a place where you can hop right into it when it is time to start back up next semester.

  1. Check the calendar. Nothing is worse than not being prepared. Spend some time penciling in the upcoming events that are coming up in the next semester. Events like the beginning or recruitment, when potential new members can start signing up for recruitment, or when bids can be distributed. Knowing these dates ahead of time will help you be more prepared

  1. Make a few purchases. Go through your inventory before the end of the year. What supplies do you need to be successful at the beginning of the next semester? Maybe it’s a new table cloth for tabling events that will start at the beginning of a new semester. Or, maybe you need new buttons for game day. What is something you can order now, that will help you be more prepared when the next semester starts?

  1. Communicate with your team. Spend time with your team before the end of the semester. Set expectations that as the team leader, you will need to communicate with your team over the break. Work together to determine a communication plan that works for you and for your team.

  1. Monitor social media. Just because school is not in session, does not mean potential new members are not thinking about how they can join your organization. Before you leave for break, make sure that you have created a social media and marketing plan that focuses on recruitment and growth.

Even though the end of the semester is approaching – the work doesn’t stop! Encourage yourself to finish the semester strong, by accomplishing these five easy things. You will be glad you took a little time now to prepare for the future.
