Recruitment Frills

By: Jessica Gendron

We are looking for the MOST RIDICULOUS SORORITY RECRUITMENT FRILLS to use in a Top Ten List we are creating. If you have examples of ridiculous, weird, unusual, or random things that your chapter, a chapter on your campus, or some other sorority does during sorority recruitment, let us know!

All we need is a brief description of what it is or what is done that is frilly, glitzy, glam-ish, unnecessary, or ridiculous during recruitment. No need for names or schools or chapters, JUST the activity or thing. You can email your examples to Jessica@PhiredUp.com or post it on the Facebook Group, Recruitment Ideas and Success Stories, discussion group entitled “Most Ridiculous Sorority Recruitment Frills.

Just remember, the purpose of this activity is to acknowledge the weird and/or strange things we do during sorority recruitment (it's okay to laugh at ourselves) so that other chapters or sororities DON't make the same mistake! We also hope to provide a response to the TOP TEN MOST RIDICULOUS SORORITY RECRUITMENT FRILLS on how to change the activity to be less intimidating and strange, but still achieve the intended outcome.

Once we get plenty of submissions we will post the Top Ten List and provide responses. Can't wait to see what we get!

Here is an example to get us started:

*This one chapter has T-Shirts that correspond in color to the drinks they are serving at that specific day's parties.

Summer Greek Bash! (Do you know any of these people?)

Phired Up Productions, The Emperor Group, and MediaSauce, three service providers within the interfraternal marketplace, hosted a summer golf outing and barbecue on Friday, June 15th. Dozens of fraternity/sorority professionals gathered at Sahm Park in Indianapolis, Indiana to celebrate the summer and share some friendship over burgers, chicken and hot dogs.

Check out some of these great pictures from the event. Thanks to everyone who attended. We had a blast!

Phired Up Productions has been a proud member of the Association of Fraternity Advisors for several years. And now, Phired Up is proud to partner with that association to present the next session of AFA's new “Virtual Seminar Series.”

This seminar is designed to educate campus professionals about the trends in campus recruitment styles, roles of the governing council, how campus staff members can aid and educate men in growing their chapters with a focus on creating values-based, year round recruitment. The presenters will share their experiences as fraternity recruitment educators and success stories of campuses they have visited.

Topics covered will include:

  • Trends in campus recruitment styles How are campuses structuring their men's recruitment? Is the traditional method of summer recruitment, Rho Chis and invitation parties still prevalent on campuses? Are men embracing and understanding how to recruit year round?
  • Roles of the governing council Who said it was the IFC's job to find the potential new members? What role should the IFC play in recruitment and how do staff members educate them on their roles.
  • Educational resources for campus professionals How campus professionals can learn more about year-round values based recruitment in order to parlay these new schools of thought to student leaders.
